When You Don't Fit In

Photo: Alisha Vargas
On my long drive home from New Mexico a couple of weeks ago, my mind raced – jumping from topic to topic.

As I mentioned in my recent previous posts, I hit the record button on my phone and processed aloud. This will be the final audio post from that trip.

This one takes on a serious tone – taking on the topic of fitting in, and what happens when you don’t. As a big guy, I’ve been in that situation most of my life. Here are my thoughts on the subject.

If you cannot get the audio player below to work, you can listen by clicking this link.

  1. I'm so proud of you, Lee. I think you are very brave. This post is a great encouragement. My two favorite quotes from this: "Hardly any of us are normal"...and "Do what it takes to enteract with other people." Love it!

    1. Thanks Carol. Appreciate that. As I listened to this post this morning, I had forgotten how vulnerable I felt when I recorded it. But I figured somebody needed to hear it. Appreciate you stopping by.

  2. Lee - this is a great post and as you know it certainly hit home due to my stuttering. Over all the years this condition has kept me from many things especially in group settings. Classes in all levels of school were certainly a problem along with phone calls. Thanks for putting into words many of my feelings. I look forward to more audio posts. Thanks again.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. Glad to try to put your feelings, and mine, into words. No more audio posts are scheduled, but you never know when I might return to them. :)

  3. Lee, I know this wasn't easy for you to do - but you were honest about how you felt and you just put it all out there. One has to admire that. I felt sad when I listened to this post - it is so raw, and it touched my heart. I am proud of my brother, for this and for so many other things. I'm so glad and so blessed to have you.
    Love ya, Nicky

    1. Thanks Nicky. If writing (or in this case, speaking) isn't raw or honest, it probably isn't all that powerful. So I'll choose the raw. And there's no need to feel sad for me. We all have struggles we are dealing with. And by the way, I'm proud of you too little Sis.

  4. Thanks, Lee. You're right, we all have our struggles. But when someone I love hurts, it hurts me too.
